Number of donor children

SellmerDiers Sperm Bank are the only clinic in the world to offer a world-wide limit to the number of children per donor so that the open donors can assume the commitment of being an open donor in the future.

Danish legislation
Danish legislation includes rules limiting the number of viable pregnancies in women residing in Denmark, where the pregnancies have been achieved with sperm from any one donor. This means that in Denmark sperm from the any one donor cannot be used to create more than 12 donor children distributed geographically across the country.

However, it is possible to create more than 12 children if the donor sperm is used for artificial insemination with a view to creating more siblings from the same donor if the Customer already has a child with the donor.

SellmerDiers guidelines
The Sperm Bank has adopted internal guidelines to limit the number of viable pregnancies in women residing abroad, where the pregnancies have been achieved with sperm from any one donor.

This means that sperm from any one donor cannot be used to create more than 40 children in customers residing abroad.

However, more than 40 children may be created in twin pregnancies and if the donor sperm is used for artificial insemination with a view to creating more siblings from the same donor if the Customer already has a child with the donor.
